Hello there

DOBRODOŠLI

Hello and welcome to the official website for Kaštel Španić, a unique 17th-century Adriatic home on the island of Korčula, Croatia. We've been coming to the island for over 10 years and hope to show you the beauty it has to offer, beyond the beaten tourist track.

HAPPY EXPLORING!

All the best,

the Paine family

Rent the kaštel

Kaštel Španić is designed for those wishing to enjoy the more traditional island way of life. You are surrounded by sea and vineyards, and removed from the tourist centres of the island. It offers the opportunity for you to enjoy the  small but unique village life of a wine-growing community

The Kaštel is located in the wine-growing village of Čara, which is 25 kilometres from Korčula town. The village lies in the middle of the island and is some 2.6 kilometres from the sea

Čara is located on Korčula, one of the three main islands that occupy the southern Dalmatian sea. These include the islands of Hvar, Brač and Korčula. Korčula is the southernmost island of the three

A restored 17th-century home

Kaštel Španić was originally built in 1674 A.D as a small fortified outpost that housed seven soldiers. It later became the Španić family’s summer home, who at one time owned the whole of the Čarsko Polje vineyards which lie in front of the house

The advent of Socialism, however, meant that the house was “socialised” and became a storage space for wine as well as the local butcher. It later fell into disrepair

After ten years of planning, stripping and rebuilding, the Kaštel has been fully restored to its original 17th-century layout. This was completed under the direction of the Ministry of Culture, as the house now has the status of a National Monument
