I mean, who doesn't enjoy relaxing on a beach, right? Well if that's you then fret not - Korčula has got you covered. If you're more of a swimmer or a "chill at the beach" kind of person, there are a number of swimming spots across the island that cater to families, couples and sun-worshippers alike
For those of you that simply enjoy the culture and taste for something different, you might find our page "what to see" more helpful
Žitna is our closest (large) pebble beach. Drive through the vineyards and turn left as you enter Zavalatica. Great for families and those who enjoy the beach
Bačva is a small bay on the south side. It's a beautiful - medium-sized - pebbled beach near the village of Pupnat, with a small restaurant where you can grab lunch or rent some kayaks. Again, great with kids to set up camp or for picnics
Pupnatska Luka is a lovely shaped bay on the Southern side, facing out towards Italy. Arguably one of the top ten beaches in Croatia! It's a popular beach, with a couple of little tavernas for lunch. It's about 8 kilometres from the Kaštel
Proizd is a small uninhabited island just off Vela Luka, only reachable by boat which you can hire or buy tickets for. There are a number of small beaches - all connected by footpaths - and a restaurant on the island. Great for snorkelling
Moro beach, Stupe is another small island except on the other side of Korčula, as part of the Korčula archipelago. It is very small but hosts quite a plush restaurant, a variety of cocktails, and some beanbags you can relax on whilst listening to funky music. Again, some great snorkelling as well
Lumbarda is a town that hosts a number of sandy beaches, and as a result rather full, but good for going with young kids. It has its fair share of cafes, restaurants and even a small aquapark, so definitely worth a visit! Anyways, nothing beats a sandy beach...
Korčula has more to offer than just pretty coastlines. The Kaštel's central location on the island means you have easy access to walking and cycling paths - be it through vineyards, up mountains or along the coastline

Walking around the island is unique in that you will most likely be treated to a small chapel of some sort at the end of your trail. There are a wide range of options when it comes to hiking, but if you are trying to avoid those steep hills (especially during the summer months) your best bet is Kocje park near Žrnovo. Its forested and has some amazing rock formations
Alternatively, you may find Pelješac - just across from Korčula town - offers some great hiking trails with some stunning views over the island
The island is a magnet for the larger sailing boats coming to and from Split and Dubrovnik. You will see many passing out at sea in front of the house. Island hopping to/from Korčula is great, considering its location offers easy connections with Split, Dubrovnik and other islands.
As of 2015, a new sailing club called Vitar has been set up in Brna (6 km’s from the house). We understand that they have Optimist and Laser boats that can be used and there are also teachers on hand. The Club’s main objective is to teach local kids to sail with the aim of bringing back maritime art to the island. They are also restoring some traditional Korčulanian boats and most of the proceeds for sailing will go towards this exercise
The island is a popular cycling area, with plenty of cycling tracks crisscrossing the island. Cycling through the vineyards at your own pace can offer the perfect way to really get to know the island and its villages.
Bicycles can be rented in Blato, Vela Luka or Korčula. Čara now has a cycle track that runs about one kilometre out of the village towards the next door village of Smokvica
If so, ever thought of pilates or yoga on an island in the middle of the Mediterranean? Korčula offers an infinite number of hidden, tranquil corners you can easily escape to. Pilates instructor and fellow yogi Mojca runs some fabulous classes and yoga retreats with her company "The Joy of the Mediterranean"
Your stay at the Kaštel can come with an all-day private trip to the island of Lastovo - and complimentary octopus salad to help satisfy your appetite. Explore old submarine bunkers, hidden coves and meet real-life pirates all aboard the boat of a Čara local. If anything its the perfect excuse for a cheeky selfie
Of course, there's so much more the island has to offer. Other activities include windsurfing, paddle-boarding, scuba diving and even riding donkeys
