WHERE TO EAT

KORČULA'S GUIDE TO

FINE DINING

From secluded taverns to luxurious restaurants, the island offers a plethora of options when it comes to wining and dining. Whatever you fancy, Korčula's foodie spots are certain to tickle your taste buds.

Eating Locally

Čara does not have a restaurant. However, our nearest harbour is 1.4kms away in Zavalatica. There are two places to eat there - we recommend Albert’s restaurant. He is a relative of Marko who we bought the house from and serves a variety of family-friendly meals as well as fish if you order it. Albert’s overlooks the harbour with a good terrace and fabulous view out to sea.

FOODIE HIGHLIGHTS

Our favourite restaurant on the island is Mate, in the village of Pupnat. Mate is an upmarket trattoria serving homemade local and Italian foods. The restaurant featured in Rick Stein’s tour from "Venice to Istanbul'. Make sure to book ahead, as it does prove popular with the tourists. In our opinion, this is the best the island has to offer.

Blato is on the way towards Vela Luka and has a number of places, where dinner at the Tinnel (Tunnel) Pizzeria can be the best way to have a night off the cooking. The food is good and reasonably priced.

The fanciest restaurant on the island is in Korcula town and is called the Lesic Dimitri Palace. The Palace is a boutique hotel and was opened some 6 years ago. It currently holds the first Michelin star on the island

Hungry for more?

Vela Luka has plenty of port side restaurants, just take your pick! In the opposite direction, you have Korčula town which is full of restaurants. The best catch of places is in the old town, on the pedestrian part looking out to sea (Šetalište Petra Kanavelića). Take your pick but make sure to book in advance in the high season

WINE, WINE AND MORE WINE

Pošip wine is unique to the island and one of the main vineyards where it grows lies just in front of the house. There are at least five different wineries in the village plus the large one that dominates the valley, which has been there since Yugoslav times. You can buy it by the bottle, glass, jug or tanker! Our favourite being the Krajančić winery in Zavalatica
