The Kaštel is located on the Croatian island of Korčula. You will find that the island is well connected to various towns and cities on the mainland. These include Split, Dubrovnik and Orebič.
Split, Croatia's second largest city and home to Emperor Diocletian's Palace, is a bustling town that is home to a large port, connecting the city to various islands in Dalmatia. There are numerous catamarans (passenger ferries) that go to Korčula via the islands of Brač and Hvar, which predominantly serve the town of Korčula itself (there is, however, a catamaran that stops in the town of Prigradica, a mere twenty-minute drive from the Kaštel). There is a car ferry that connects Split with Vela Luka, the town to the north of the island. Split boasts an airport that is well connected to various European destinations.
Dubrovnik, often referred to as the "pearl of the Adriatic", is a stunning fortified city that is connected to Korčula by catamaran only. These often leave in the afternoon and stop at Korčula town via the island of Mljet, a national park which is definitely worth a visit if you have the chance to go. Much like Split, Dubrovnik airport is well connected to various destinations in Europe, as well as the U.S!
The town of Orebič, on the Pelješac Peninsula, sits just across from Korčula town on the mainland. There is a regular car ferry that connects Orebič to Domincé, a small port that sits between Korčula town and Lumbarda. If you are driving to Korčula from Split or Northern Europe via Orebič, there is a new bridge that connects the Pelješac Peninsula with the rest of Croatia, bypassing the Bosnian town of Neum and shaving off about an hours worth of travel! It makes for a lovely drive as well.
The two main ferry companies that serve the Island of Korčula are Jadrolinja and Krilo. Both offer Catamaran services; however, the two car ferries (Split - Vela Luka, Orebič - Domincé) are run by Jadrolinja. Make sure to check the timetable for these ferries in advance, as they are likely to change in the summer season
The easiest way to get to the Kaštel is by car. Feel free to download the attachment below, where you will find detailed instructions on how to get to the house and island by car
then we suggest you fly into Dubrovnik. Pick up your car (visit Dubrovnik), and drive two hours to the head of the Pelješac peninsula where a 10-minute ferry gets you to Korčula (from Orebič) town on the island
then probably best to fly into Split. Catch the ferry to Vela Luka (3-4 hours) and rent a car in advance from a local agency in Vela Luka
There are a number of bus routes on the island that can take you to various towns and villages, but the main route is the one that comes through the village of Čara and connects Korčula town with Vela Luka. This is operated by Arriva and runs pretty regularly.
And if you're feeling slightly more adventurous, there are even direct buses from Čara to Zagreb, Sarajevo and Dubrovnik!
